Charles J. Karulak, Ed.D. – Headmaster

What one word describes Winston? Transformative.
What do you love most about Winston?  The school community; the parents, students, teachers, board members, and staff
Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography with a minor in Elementary Education from St. Louis University; Master of Science Degree in Special Education from University of Texas-Dallas; Doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University; and an administrator’s certificate from the University of Texas-San Antonio.
Dr. Karulak has been Winston's Headmaster since 1989. Before accepting the position, he was a charter faculty member of the Winston School in Dallas, working in various capacities for 14 years. Before that, he was a former college hockey player and assistant coach. Dr. Karulak has a love for learning and children that fosters his ability to connect personally with each Winston student. When alumni return to visit Winston, they often remark on the life-changing impact Dr. Karulak has had on their lives.
 

Louise Pastorino, MAT, M.Ed. – Head of Lower School

What one word describes Winston? Inclusive.
What do you love most about Winston? The expertise of our teachers and their love for our students.
Education: Bachelor of Arts (cum laude), Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Education, all from Trinity University.
Mrs. Pastorino has been at Winston since 1999. She taught C and D Cores before moving into the position of Head of Lower and Middle School. Mrs. Pastorino has served as an adjunct professor at Trinity University, and received the Award for Excellence in Special Education in 1998. Mrs. Pastorino is known to take a personal interest in each child's progress and development. 

 

Steven Yocham, M.Ed. – Head of Middle & Upper Schools

What one word describes Winston? Nurturing.
What do you love most about Winston? Winston helps develop students' strengths and builds confidence.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Biology from the UTSA; Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Technology & Curriculum from Houston Baptist University.
Mr. Yocham joined Winston in 2000, first teaching Upper School Science, then Digital Media courses. He assumed the role of Head of Upper School in 2009, and the additional role of Head of Middle School in 2017. Each year, Mr. Yocham works closely with our College & Career Counselor to ensure that each student is making progress down the path that best fits his or her needs. 

 

Julie Saboe, M.A. – Director of Admissions

What one word describes Winston? Opportunity.
What do you love most about Winston? The positive learning environment at Winston offers the chance for all students to succeed.
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Sociology from Luther College; Master of Arts in Special Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities from the University of Iowa.
Mrs. Saboe has been with Winston for almost 20 years. She served as a Lower School teacher and Head of Lower and Middle School before entering her position as Director of Admissions. Mrs. Saboe is often the first person new families meet at Winston. Her warmth and compassion put new parents and students at ease as they begin the admissions and enrollment process. 


Corrine Roscoe, B.A. – Director of Finance and Operations

What one word describes Winston? Community.
What do you love most about Winston? I love that students at Winston get support from every person around them at the school.
Education: Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
Mrs. Roscoe joined Winston in May of 2016. Previously, she worked as the Chief Financial Officer at a private school in the San Francisco Bay area for over 10 years. Her love for children is evident through her school administration experience and her volunteerism; she currently volunteers with OccupyLove Worldwide.


Cassandra Nicole Wright, B.A. – Director of Advancement

What one word describes Winston? Caring.
What do you love most about Winston? Winston is a family; each member of our community truly cares for and supports one another!
Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Government from the University of Texas at Austin.
Ms. Wright is our Director of Advancement, and manages all aspects of fundraising and development for the school, including special events like the Auction & Gala, Symposium, and Annual Fund. Prior to coming to Winston, she gained her experience as an event coordinator and speech writer.

 

Denise Williams, M.A. – Guidance Counselor

What one word describes Winston? Family.
What do you love most about Winston? The support and compassion, and the ability to build relationships with families.
Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Mrs. Williams started her career as a special education teacher before moving into guidance. She served as a Guidance Counselor for area high schools for ten years before settling into her role at Winston in 2011.
 

 

Toni Phelps, M.Ed. – College and Career Counselor

What one word describes Winston? Unique.
What do you love most about Winston? Everyone at Winston is different, which makes everyone fit in! Winston is a family and we support each other every step of the way!
Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Theatre, Master of Education in Secondary Education from Texas State University.
Ms. Phelps joined Winston in June of 2016. Previously, she served as an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor at Texas State University. She is an active member of the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling Government Relations Committee.
 

Rachel V. Trevino – Executive Assistant/Registrar

What one word describes Winston? Life-changing.
What do you love most about Winston? The kids!
Education: Mrs. Treviño graduated in the top 10% of her class at Milby High School in Houston. She has taken numerous college and business courses.
Mrs. Treviño is the Executive Assistant to the Headmaster and school registrar. She is a charter member of The Winston School San Antonio staff.. Prior to coming to Winston, she amassed experience working in both the private and public business sectors.

 

 

Juan Bosco Morales, B.A. – Director of Communications

What one word describes Winston? Confidence.
What do you love most about Winston? I love that my son and his classmates have increased confidence, academics, and a dramatically improved life outlook after being a part of Winston.
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a major in Radio, Television, and Film from the Universidad Regiomontana.
Mr. Morales began his position as an Advancement Associate for Winston in 2012. Prior to that, he served as owner and VP of Operations for Digital Edge, a communications and video production company.
 

 
Sue Borst, B.A. – Director of Marketing

What one word describes Winston? Life-changing.
What do you love most about Winston? Winston allows family life to return to normal, and for students to have a life outside of academics.
Education: Mrs. Borst received her education from the Salford College of Technology and from the Manchester Metropolitan University in England. 
Mrs. Borst began her career at Winston in 2014 after implementing a new branding and marketing plan for Winston as a contractor. She joined the school full-time in 2018. Mrs. Borst has experience as a successful marketing consultant focusing on digital media and re-branding, and is a small business owner.

Charles Acord – Director of Maintenance

What one word describes Winston? Dedicated.
What do you love most about Winston? 
Mr. Acord has been the Director of Maintenance at Winston since 2002. Prior to joining us at Winston, he worked in construction and also owned his own auto repair shop. He holds many certifications, including Ford-trained Service Technician, OSHA, Universal Technician, MVAC Technician, WebCTRL®, Spectra-Physics Laserplane operator, and many others.

Cassie Barrios – Receptionist

What one word describes Winston? Awesome!
What do you love most about Winston? Winston allows students to be who they are while still learning and growing personally and educationally.
Mrs. Barrios has been Winston's receptionist since 2015. Prior to coming to Winston, she worked in admissions at the Aveda Institute San Antonio.

 

 

 

Bianca Flores – Volunteer Coordinator and Administrative Assistant

What one word describes Winston? Inclusive.
What do you love most about Winston? I love Winston because of the diverse group of kids we have here, along with the support and passion our teachers have for all of our students.
Mrs. Flores joined Winston in 2015. She has extensive experience in event planning and management. Mrs. Flores provides administrative assistance to Mrs. Pastorino and Mr. Yocham. She is also responsible for managing school volunteers and assisting with special events. s.
 

 

Missy Harris, R.N. – School Nurse

What one word describes Winston? Welcoming.
What do you love most about Winston? At Winston, you don't feel like a number, you feel like a family member. 
Mrs. Harris joined Winston in 2018 after gaining experience in an educational setting at AHISD and NEISD. In her spare time, Mrs. Harris spends time and watching her daughters playing sports. 

 

 

 

Ana Lopez – Assistant to Director of Finance and Operations

What one word describes Winston? Extraordinary.
What do you love most about Winston? I love the people at Winston. It's a great environment to be in.
Ms. Lopez works in Winston’s Finance Office processing accounts payable and receivable. Prior to coming to Winston she had 23 years of experience as a Director of Finance of a local catering company.

 

 

 

 

Julio Rangel – Maintenance Assistant

What one word describes Winston? Welcoming.
What do you love most about Winston? I love that everyone--the teachers, kids, and parents--enjoy being here. It makes you happy to be a part of the school. 
Mr. Rangel joined the Winston maintenance team in 2017. He helps keep our grounds well manicured and our school in good shape.
