Charles J. Karulak, Ed.D. – Headmaster
Education: Dr. Karulak received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Louis University with a major in Geography and a minor in elementary education, a Master of Science Degree from University of Texas-Dallas in Special Education, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. He also earned an administrator’s certificate from the University of Texas-San Antonio.
Experience: Dr. Karulak has been the Headmaster at Winston since 1989. Before accepting his position here, he was a charter faculty member of the Winston School-Dallas working in various capacities for fourteen years. Before that, he was a former college hockey player and assistant coach for two years.
Louise Pastorino, MAT, M.Ed. – Head of Lower School
Education: Mrs. Pastorino received her Bachelor of Arts (cum laude), Master of Arts in Teaching, and Master of Education, all from Trinity University. She also received the Award for Excellence in Special Education from Trinity University in 1997-1998.
Experience: Mrs. Pastorino has been at Winston since 1999. Her first year, she taught C Core and the second year D Core before moving into her position as Head of Lower and Middle School. Mrs. Pastorino has also served as an adjunct professor at Trinity University. Prior to coming to Winston, she raised twin daughters and worked with her husband in various businesses in the magazine and newspaper industry, one of which was publishing a weekly community newspaper.
Steven Yocham, M.Ed. – Head of Middle & Upper Schools
Education: Mr. Yocham received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and his Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Technology and Curriculum from Houston Baptist University.
Experience: Mr. Yocham began his Winston career in 2000, spending several years in the classroom, first teaching all Upper School Science courses, then switching his focus to our Digital Media courses. He assumed the role of Head of the Upper School in 2009, and assumed the additional role of Head of Middle School in 2017.
Julie Saboe, M.A. – Director of Admissions
Education: Mrs. Saboe received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Sociology from Luther College and her Master of Arts Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities from the University of Iowa.
Experience: Mrs. Saboe has held positions in both private and public schools as a preschool and elementary teacher in special education and learning disabilities classrooms. She started at Winston as a part-time Lower School teacher and has also served as the Head of the Lower and Middle School, and for the last several years she’s served as our Director of Admissions.
Corrine Roscoe, B.A. – Director of Finance and Operations
Education: Mrs. Roscoe received her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from the University of Southern California.
Experience: Mrs. Roscoe joined Winston in May of 2016. Previously, she worked as the Chief Financial Officer at a private Episcopal school in the San Francisco Bay area for over 10 years. Her love for children is evident through her school administration experience and her volunteerism; she currently volunteers with OccupyLove Worldwide.
Cassandra Nicole Wright, B.A. – Director of Advancement
Education: Ms. Wright received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Government from the University of Texas at Austin.
Experience: Ms. Wright is our Director of Advancement, and manages all aspects of fundraising for the school. Prior to coming to Winston, she gained her experience as an event coordinator and speech writer.
Denise Williams, M.A. – Guidance Counselor
Education: Mrs. Williams received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and her Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Experience: Mrs. Williams started her career as a special education teacher before moving into guidance. She served as a Guidance Counselor for area high schools for ten years before settling into her role here at Winston in 2011.
Toni Phelps, M.Ed. – College and Career Counselor
Education: Ms. Phelps received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Theatre and her Master of Education in Secondary Education from Texas State University.
Experience: Ms. Phelps joined Winston in June of 2016. Previously, she served as an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor at Texas State University. She is also an active member of the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling Government Relations Committee.
Rachel V. Trevino – Executive Assistant/Registrar
Education: Mrs. Treviño graduated in the top 10% of her class at Milby High School in Houston. She has also taken numerous college and business courses.
Experience: Mrs. Treviño is the Executive Assistant to the Headmaster and also serves as the School Registrar. She is a charter member of The Winston School San Antonio staff, which was established in 1985. Prior to coming to Winston, she amassed tremendous experience working in both the private and public business sectors.
Chris Borth, M.Ed. – Athletic Director
Education: Coach Borth received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Kinesiology from Texas State University and his Master of Education with an emphasis in Science Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University.
Experience: Coach Borth taught Middle School Math and Science as well as Upper School Math here at Winston for six years before taking the position of Athletic Director. Prior to coming to Winston, he worked as a teacher and coach for the Northside Independent School District, Lytle Independent School District, and St. James Catholic School. Coach Borth has nearly 15 years of experience as a teacher and athletic coach.
Juan Bosco Morales, B.A. – Associate Director of Communications
Education: Mr. Morales received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a major in Radio, Television, and Film from the Universidad Regiomontana.
Experience: Mr. Morales began his position as an Advancement Associate for Winston in 2012. Prior to that, he served as owner and VP of Operations for Digital Edge, a communications and video production company.
Meet Our Staff
Charles Acord – Director of Maintenance
Education: Mr. Acord attended MacArthur High School.
Experience: Mr. Acord has been the Director of Maintenance at Winston since 2002.
Prior to coming to Winston, he worked in construction and also owned his own auto repair shop. Mr. Acord holds many certifications including Ford-trained Service Technician, OSHA, Universal Technician (EPA Mainstream Engineering Corporation), MVAC Technician, Spectra-Physics Laserplane operator, Qualified Operator of Powder Actuated Ramset Tools, Qualified Operator of Powder Actuated Hilti Tools and Qualified operator of the HI-Lift Telescoping Forklift. He is also trained to use WebCTRL®, a web-based building automation system for the school HVAC system.
Karen Cluck, R.N. – School Nurse
Education: Mrs. Cluck received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently holds a Texas Registered Nurse License.
Experience: Mrs. Cluck is the School Nurse at Winston. She also teaches Middle School Health. She has 32 years of nursing experience, the last nine as a School Nurse.
Bianca Flores – Volunteer Coordinator & Administrative Assistant
Experience: Mrs. Flores joined Winston in 2015. She has extensive experience in event planning and management. Mrs. Flores provides administrative assistance to Mrs. Pastorino and Mr. Yocham. She is also responsible for managing school volunteers and assisting with special events.
Cassie Barrios – Receptionist
Education: Mrs. Barrios attended classes at the University of the Incarnate Word.
Experience: Mrs. Barrios has worked as the Winston Receptionist since 2015. Prior to coming to Winston, she worked in admissions at the Aveda Institute San Antonio.
Ana Lopez – Assistant to Director of Finance and Operations
Education: Ms. Lopez attended classes at Texas A&M in Kingsville.
Experience: Ms. Lopez works in Winston’s Finance Office processing accounts payable and receivable. Prior to coming to Winston she had 23 years of experience as a Director of Finance of a local catering company.
Richard Garcia – Maintenance Assistant
Education: Mr. Garcia attended Jefferson High School.
Experience: Mr. Garcia joined Winston’s maintenance team in 2012 to help keep the
grounds in great shape. He came to Winston with strong recommendations from another small school.
Julio Rangel – Maintenance Assistant
Experience: Mr. Rangel joined the Winston maintenance team in 2017. He helps keep our grounds well manicured and our school in good shape.
