Advocating for those minds that learn differently

Our History

Student ArtThe Winston School San Antonio was established in 1985. Originally part of The Winston School of Dallas (founded in 1975), The Winston School San Antonio legally severed its ties with the Dallas school in the spring of 1989. The Winston School San Antonio is now incorporated as a non-profit school offering a program for students with learning differences.

Since the inception (grades 1–8) of The Winston School San Antonio, one grade level was added each year. In 1990, The Winston School San Antonio graduated its first senior class.

Today, The Winston School San Antonio is on its way to becoming a model of cooperation in learning disabilities education and research. A land grant in 1994 from the San Antonio Medical Foundation paved the way for the construction of a state-of-the-art facility in the South Texas Medical Center. The new campus opened in 1998 and accommodates up to 250 students. Strategic planning and an active development program have established a need-based program of tuition assistance which has grown steadily each year, reflecting a commitment to make the Winston alternative available to the entire community.
