Winston provides an environment of support and academic success for students with learning differences. Our admissions process aligns with that and is designed to be supportive, warm, and informative for prospective families.
Prospective Winston students must have average to superior intellectual ability and one or more of the following:
A diagnosed learning difference in one or more academic areas:
- Reading, including dyslexia
- Math, including dyscalculia
- Written expression, including dysgraphia
- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Experiencing academic difficulties in a traditional classroom setting
Winston does not accept children with the following:
- Aggressive behavior, Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Emotional Disturbance or Mood Disorder
- Psychotic Disorder or Personality Disorder
- Limited intellectual functioning
- Drug or alcohol problems

Consultation with the Director of Admissions, where Winston’s philosophy and mission is explained and a tour of the campus is given. Parents that are interested in applying to The Winston School San Antonio must schedule a private consultation during the school day. Review of the student’s Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE) which includes IQ and achievement testing, ARD/IEP and/or 504 documentation, current report card and other pertinent educational records must be submitted.
Invitation to Apply
Families of students determined to be candidates are provided instructions for completing the full application, including questionnaires for current teachers.
Families submit a completed application, including a $150 non-refundable application fee.
An informal student tour is scheduled, followed by a two-day visit (required) where prospective students experience the Winston difference firsthand.
The Admissions Committee reviews the complete applicant file, including teacher feedback from the student’s Winston visit.
Families are notified of acceptance decision. If offered acceptance, families receive instructions for completion of the enrollment agreement and submission of their $1,000 tuition deposit to hold the student’s place at Winston.
