Karen Ruiz, M.A., NCSP, is a dedicated School Psychologist who earned her Master of Arts in School Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Studio Arts from the University of Rochester. She is also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP), a credential that reflects her expertise in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development according to nationally recognized standards. Before joining WSSA in 2023, she worked as a School Psychologist (credentialed as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology) in San Antonio ISD and North East ISD, and completed her practicum with A.I.M., where WSSA was one of the schools she supported.

Her professional experience includes roles as a tutor in Title I schools, academic coach for students with disabilities, instructional assistant in a Head Start program, and she has been trained in applied behavior analysis and behavior interventions. She also gained research experience as a research assistant in the Social Stress Psychology Lab at the University of Rochester. While in graduate school, she contributed to a poster presentation on a literature review of mindfulness-based interventions for test anxiety and academic performance, which received the UTSA Graduate Student Professional Development Award and was presented at both the Texas Association of School Psychologists Fall Professional Development Convention and the National Association of School Psychologists Annual Convention. Mrs. Ruiz has also been recognized with several academic honors, including the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award.
