Monica Solis has been with WSSA since Spring 2025. Prior to joining WSSA, she was an elementary teacher for IDEA Public Schools, teaching English Language Arts. Her start in education was in teaching young adults in their credit recovery journey, as well as freshmen and sophomores for English Language Arts enrichment at Premier High School in Brownsville, Texas.  Ms. Solis prides herself in building connections with students, encouraging social-emotional learning and mindfulness opportunities throughout their academic journeys. She is trained as a Championing Kids Hearts coach, and has worked in education outside of teaching in the non-profit space, including volunteer management through Big Brothers Big Sisters and a volunteer and development coordinator for Restore Education as an Americorps Vista member. Ms. Solis has served in San Antonio Volunteer Administrators,  the education committee for South Texas Palm Society, and is an Americorps Alumna.  
Ms. Solis has been teaching for 5 years, and has taught high school and young adults, as well as 2nd and 4th grade, teaching multiple subjects with a strong focus in ELA.  Monica Solis graduated from Texas State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication. During her time at Texas State, Solis received awards for best recurring podcast in her journalistic work with KTSW 89.9, highlighting a longstanding passion for creative writing and journalism. Ms. Solis co-sponsors Winston's Interact organization, Art Club, and Good Morning Winston.  When she is not teaching, Monica enjoys writing poetry, traveling, attending open mic events or art showcases, volunteering, seeing live music, going to museums and going on hikes or other outdoor adventures.
