A Learning Disabilities Simulation

This event took place on Saturday, September 30, 2023

This intense, interactive workshop gave attendees a first-hand understanding of the difficulties and frustrations students with reading and language disabilities encounter.

To most, this is a powerful experience that solicits compassion, respect, and tearful emotion for anyone who faces such challenges 24 hours a day.

This event was presented in conjunction with Celebrate Dyslexia and Trinity University.

The Winston School San Antonio is an approved provider of Continuing Professional Development Education for Teachers by the State Board of Education. (TEA I.D. #500962) This program is approved for a maximum of 3 CE credits.

“Anxiety and Depression in Children and Adolescents”

This in-person event took place on Thursday, February 22, 2024 - 6:30 p.m.

Anxiety and depression in children and adolescents have risen to the highest levels in recent history. Even before the pandemic, anxiety and depression were becoming more common among children and adolescents. What can parents and educators do to help manage these rates of anxiety and depression? How can educators, parents, and mental health providers normalize the anxious feelings of children and teens while also recognizing when their anxiety requires mental health interventions?

“The Winston Learning Series”

“Bridging the Gap: The Transition to College for Neurodiverse Students”

Led by Dr. Dianne Hengst, Psy.D. and Toni Schexnyder, M.Ed.

This in-person event took place on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 - 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This session explored the barriers students with disabilities face as they transition into postsecondary education, the types of support programs offered at higher education institutions, the regulations that govern disability services, and the process for securing accommodations in college. Watch the video to discover how students with disabilities are part of the diversity that exists on college campuses today and how to think creatively to solve barrier issues through awareness and self-advocacy.
